Dr. Emrah Akyüz is an Associate Professor of Environmental Policy and Energy Politics at Bingöl University, Turkey, where he has been serving as a faculty member since 2020. He holds an MSc in Urban Studies from the University of Edinburgh, with a thesis focusing on the emergence and evolution of urban social movements, and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Leeds with a dissertation exploring the human rights implications of the Fukushima and Chernobyl nuclear disasters.
Dr. Akyüz’s interdisciplinary research spans the fields of environmental politics, energy policy, human rights, and social movements. His scholarly work critically examines the political, legal, and ethical dimensions of nuclear energy production and governance, with a particular emphasis on public perception, risk communication, and the socio-political aftermath of nuclear accidents. Additionally, he investigates the role of civil society and grassroots activism in shaping environmental discourse and urban policy in Turkey and beyond.
He is the author of several monographs that reflect the depth and breadth of his expertise, including Nuclear Power and Human Rights in Japan: The Fallout of Fukushima, Urban Social Movements in Turkey, and Nuclear Energy: Perception or Reality?.
